Music Industry Wins Huge Amount for Damages

In December, a court order requiring Cox Communications to pay damages to Sony Music, Warner Music Group and Universal Music Group came into effect.There are also other, smaller companies inolved, the total amount reaching $1 billion.The case was a major copyright infringement, causing substantial financial damage to the copyright holders. According to the President of the National Music Publishers’ Association, the decision is a victory for the music industry, whose fight against copyright violators is ongoing. In addition, the decision is a warning to anyone who does not take responsibility for dealing with piracy.
